The price of your nail art is highly dependent upon the complexity of the design requested, alongside the materials used in creating the base nail. For gel nails, particularly in designs utilising a wide range of colours, glitters, additional products, and time-consuming techniques, a fair additional charge may be imposed on top of our existing SMB manicure costs. Gel manicures, and gel polish, offer a revolutionary combination of flexibility and durability, allowing for the creation of a shiny, smooth, and traditional manicure look with extreme chip resistance, short drying times, and longevity unlike any other polish.  The unique formula of modern gel nail polishes, combined with UV curing and highly effective top-coats have extended the lifespan of the manicure from days to a week at the hands of chips, to between two to three weeks.  Of course, it’s essential to care for your gel nails in order to ensure their longevity, regardless of their tough exterior. Whilst modelling your manicure, avoid continued exposure to hot water, ask your beautician to repair damage in the rare case of chipping, and, if aiming for a very long-lasting manicure, select a light colour in order to disguise regrowth.

Gel nails are a safe option if applied and removed correctly – with soft gels being a particularly gentle option compared to hard gels and acrylics for those seeking a long-lasting manicure as a result of their ‘soak off’ removal strategy.  In order to protect your nail health, ensure your manicurist is fully qualified. If they’re correctly educated and experienced in gel application and removal, there should be no scraping, pulling, or sanding – all of which could damage both the nail and cuticle – used at any point in the removal. Do not pick and peel at your manicure at any point throughout its lifespan. Instead, ensure you visit your beautician for a ‘soak-off’ removal.

The choice between gel and acrylic nails should be a personal one –  as each boasts its own pros and cons. The two nail products are very different. Whilst acrylics offer a hard surface and significant length created by mixing a polymer and monomer, gel polish is soft, flexible, and less damaging to the original nail in both everyday wear and removal. Gel nail polish is certainly able to strengthen nails throughout wear as a result of its balanced, strong, and flexible formula, alongside its fast UV cure, however, despite the added resistance offered, it’s important to consider the nail beneath throughout the period of wear and removal. It’s crucial to ensure your gel polish is applied and removed using non-invasive techniques – such as ‘soak-off’, in place of sanding, or vigorous scraping, which are proven to damage the nail and cuticle. It’s also highly recommended to have a manicure removed after three weeks of wear, allowing the nail beneath to breathe.

The proper removal of a gel manicure is essential to the safety of the nails. Regardless of the condition of the manicure, the polish should never be peeled or scraped off by hand. Instead, visit a salon offering soak-off gel removal treatments to avoid brittleness, damage, and weakness.  This safe gel removal process takes approximately 20 minutes, and involves gentle buffing, prior to a 15-minute soak in acetone designed to soften the polish prior to removal using cotton pads. At this point, a new manicure may be applied, or a break may be taken in order to allow the nails to breathe.

Yes, you can! With SMB Beauty’s simple online booking software, our clients are easily able to re-book a therapist they’ve had before, or select a new one. Once you’ve chosen your therapist, you’ll be able to see an overview of their availability in calendar format and select a date and time that works for you. We appreciate that sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. In order to keep things running as smoothly as possible on our side, we kindly request that at least 24 hours notice (but ideally 48 hours) be provided for cancellations. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment. SMB Beauty appointments must be pre-paid. Unfortunately, if your appointment is cancelled with under 24 hours of notice, you won’t receive a refund.  In case of an emergency less than 24 hours prior to your appointment, please contact our friendly reception team. We’ll be happy to help.

SMB Beauty accepts payment in advance, both through our online booking system (card only), and in-store (card and cash). We’re situated within the picturesque market town of Brecon, Mid-Wales. You’ll find our salon locates along the car park off St Mary’s Street, between ‘Youngs Carpets’ and ‘Dewi’s Secret Garden’. Please note that at this time, we have limited parking only: should you be unable to find a space, the nearby new Library has a large pay and display area.
